Cupping Therapy is a form of alternative medicine in which cups are placed on the skin and then these cups create a suction. The cups are made of variety of materials like:
The people who practice it believe that it mobilizes blood flow and provides healing due to this mobilization. Its basic working is to provide suction and this suction can not only be provided by cups but also by heat and mechanical devices like electrical pumps.
Methods for this Therapy
It has broad categories but there are two main categories of Cupping Therapy.
As a general rule from medieval world, wet cupping refers usually to curative-treatment approach to patient management whereas dry cupping refers and helps in a therapeutic and relaxation approach.
In dry cupping small area of low pressure is created and certain procedures are followed during the treatment. The cups which are used, vary in sizes and shapes. These shapes may include balls or bells. And they can range from 1 inch to 3 inch and when we consider it in millimeters it is 25mm to 76mm.In this procedure low air pressure is created by heating the cup or anything with shape of cup with a fire or flame. Then it is placed against the skin there by cooling it and contracting it, so it draws itself towards the skin. In this modern world vacuum is also created by a mechanical suction pump and in this rubber caps are installed to squeeze air out. This therapy is not painful and provides everlasting relief.
Wet cupping is another technique of cupping therapy. In this a mild suction is formed by using a cup that is placed for about three to four minutes. Then the healer removes the cup and a scalpel of usually small size is used to make superficial skin incisions. Then after this the healer provides a second suction to draw out some quantity of blood. Then the place where we have placed cup is covered with antibiotic treatment and bandage to prevent from infectious disease. The skin then becomes normal after 7 to 10 days. The cupping therapists believe that wet cupping removes harmful substances and harmful toxics from body and as a result the patient receives healing.
